Garth Brooks' music is a continuous tune in my truck and today while riding I came across one of my favorite songs of his. "The River" is a very inspiring song and is one that is close to my heart as it has a great message. The song is about a sailor who is leading his vessel through a river while facing bumps and bruises throughout his journey but keeps sailing as he knows there is land on the other side . From this, I take that we are the sailors and Satan is the storm with crashing waves trying to knock us off our course. But we must continue to sail through the storms and continue to seek God:
"There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all..."
"Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores..."
It's never easy facing hardships and struggles in our lives. From experience, I know it's a struggle. Sometimes we want to go off course and find another way around it all but at the time we didn't know that the other way consists of a dangerous current and a deserted area. Although there WILL be storms throughout our lives, we must stay on course. We must trust God as our captain as he will lead us to a plentiful shore.
"Jesus looked at them and said 'with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" -Matthew 19:26
"Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." -Psalm 9:10
